Teddy was Go handmade’s very first faux‑fur yarn – and the yarn that laid the foundation for our first popular crocheted Teddy family almost 10 years ago.
Then came the iconic Teddy Basser – the soft sheep that, to this day, remain among the most loved patterns in Teddy yarn. On the knitting side it is especially the pram suit and the hooded jacket for the smallest that have made an impact. As the mother Julie put it when she saw her little girl snuggle into the pram suit: ‘You could tell she was happy in it.’
Teddy is a yarn that gives warmth and charm – whether used for teddies, little baby jackets or larger projects. A faux‑fur yarn that will always have a special place in our story.
We are also happy to share an honest review of Teddy yarn – because working with fur yarns is not always a walk in the park. They require a bit of practice and attention along the way, but as the reviewer writes, the reward is worth it:
‘Love working with this yarn, even though I need to pay more attention to counting stitches and each stitch. I’ve just ordered my second batch for more projects.’
How Teddy is constructed
Teddy consists of a single strong polyester core, where, during spinning, a multitude of small, short polyester fibres are bound firmly all the way around the strand.
Instead of long, fluttering fibres (as Couture has), Teddy is built from short, dense “loops” and fibres, which are cut and brushed so they rise and create the classic teddy surface – full, compact and even.
