Tencel Bamboo

The classic factual side
Tencel Bamboo is a yarn with a very special mix of smoothness, softness and lightness. The yarn is a blend of bamboo and Tencel – two fibres that are both naturally silky. Tencel is a sustainable material, made from FSC‑certified wood pulp, primarily from beech and eucalyptus, and known for its environmentally friendly production.
The smooth fibres give the yarn a luxurious surface and make it extra comfortable against the skin. It is therefore particularly suitable for baby and children’s knits, where comfort and softness are essential.

The yarn’s nature – the honest side
The thread is made up of 9 very fine strands, each spun from two even finer threads. The yarn is loosely spun, which gives it its signature softness and light, elegant drape.
The loose spin – combined with the smooth fibres, which cannot be spun harder without damage – means the yarn naturally has a structure that may vary slightly. Light felting or occasional breaks in the strand can occur and are fully to be expected for this type of yarn.
Loosely spun yarns require a little extra tolerance and patience – but the reward is a finished project with an exceptionally beautiful and refined look.

The reward in the finished piece
Once Tencel Bamboo is knitted or crocheted at the right tension, something special happens. The result is a project where it can be felt – and seen – that it is successful, and it lasts.

It is important to mention that the yarn’s special structure requires the right tension. Many think they knit or crochet firmly enough, but in reality, the work sits too loosely. And with threads as fine as in Tencel Bamboo (and Soft Bamboo), too loose a tension can make stitches heavy and loose – and they will not hold optimally. With the correct tension, the yarn keeps its shape beautifully and delivers a result that stands comparison with the best.

Customer review:
‘LOVE this yarn.
Grandma knitted a bodysuit for my daughter, and it is the softest, most luxurious she owns.’

The magic in the projects
Our first major baby‑knit collection was created in collaboration with Inger – a passionate knitter who left her mark on Go handmade. She was thrilled by how Tencel Bamboo ‘danced’ across the needles and created some of our most iconic baby designs in this very yarn.
Inger’s designs became the core of our baby series, because the yarn’s properties matched her firm requirements: comfort, softness and meticulous craftsmanship for the smallest. Since then, the yarn has been a hallmark of how beautiful and exclusive baby and children’s knits can be when worked in Tencel Bamboo.

Designers’ favourite
Tencel Bamboo is not only used for baby and children’s knits. It has also become a preferred choice among recognised international designers who crochet unique dresses and garments in the yarn. They particularly highlight the natural drape and the graceful movement in the finished result – qualities that give crocheted dresses and tops just the right luxurious expression.
Even though the yarn can be challenging to work with, it repays the effort again and again – and designers’ experience shows that the finished result can match high‑end fashion. In fact, Tencel Bamboo has already found its way to the New York catwalk, used in crocheted dresses that drew a lot of attention.
