Fur Lux is one of our most loved fur‑effect yarns – both among designers and crochet and knitting enthusiasts. It has a softness and fullness that are hard to let go of, and that can lift even simple projects into something special.
It works perfectly on its own for warm accessories such as hats, wrist warmers and shawls, and at the same time gives an exclusive lift as an effect yarn in a mix with regular yarns. In a vest, sweater or jacket it adds a distinct touch of luxury and winter mood.
Among other things, we have used Fur Lux in The Magical Doll Journey to Paris, where it became the finest winter jackets and ear warmers in the dolls’ wardrobe. Here, once again, the yarn showed how it can give a design an irresistibly beautiful expression.
How Fur Lux is made
Fur Lux starts as small polyester chips – the same pure raw materials used in high‑quality faux fur. Two types of chips are melted separately:
– a regular polyester, which gives strength
– a low‑melting polyester, which later gives the yarn its fluff and its shape
The two materials are spun together into a single fibre, where the low‑melting part sits as a small portion of the filament. It is a professional method called bi‑component spinning – and it is precisely this construction that makes Fur Lux a true luxury yarn.
When the fibre has been spun and cooled, the long filaments are gathered in a tow that is cut into soft, fur‑like fibre lengths. The fibres are then spun into the yarn itself, where the twist is adjusted so the fluff distributes evenly.
The most important phase comes at the end:
The yarn is warmed in a controlled way, so the low‑melting part of the fibre contracts slightly. This makes the fibres curl, lift and form the soft, three‑dimensional fur structure characteristic of Fur Lux. At the same time, this process helps hold the fibres more stably in place, so the yarn behaves calmly in use.
Finally, the yarn is dyed, dried and wound into balls – and each colour is checked for softness, evenness and character before it goes further.
